If you are not hiring a car during your stay or simply don’t fancy driving, there is a local bus which runs from Albufeira to Gale Beach and back. The bus stops outside the Sao Rafael CS Hotel, which is only 400 meters from the apartment (see map below). For up to date and detailed information on the route and a printable timetable, please visit the link below.

Buses run daily in the summer, but not on Sundays or Public holidays from October to May.

A taxi is around 5 – 7 euros from Old Town to Sao Rafael. Albufeira Old Town is a leisurely 35 minute walk away and Vale de Parra is about 25 minutes gentle walk away.

It is wise to use the Hotel Maritur as a pick up / drop off point as all taxis are familiar with this hotel and is only a short walk from the apartment. Taxis tend to arrive within a couple of minutes! The rank and drivers all speak English so you will have no problem in getting to your destination. For return journeys, use Sao Rafael, Hotel Maritur or Sao Rafael beach. You can then stop him at the right spot!

Taxis in Portugal are relatively cheap and are quick and safe. In fact it comes out cheaper for 3 or 4 persons than the bus in many cases. Taxi cabs are easily recognizable for their colors are either light beige or black with a green top.

The local Taxi company (Rádio Taxi de Albufeira) has more than 100 cabs and over 20 ranks at various central points across Albufeira area. It is possible to order a Taxi by telephone from any hotel and most public places. Be aware that during high season long queues are commons at the most popular places in Albufeira like in the Old town and around the Strip / Oura area, mostly at night.
